On Wednesday, December 14th we will offer all existing patients, in exchange for 1 new, unwrapped toy, 20% off your adjustment.

On Thursday, December 15th all scheduled new patients will receive a consultation, computerized spinal exam and x-rays for $50 (a $280 value) in exchange for 2 new, unwrapped toys.

During the week of December 12th through December 17th we will offer 20% off all scheduled massages, in exchange for 1 new, unwrapped toy.

Patient Spotlight: Janice

Chiropractic is for everyone! Our patient Janice is 90 years young, and comes in for her adjustments. She can easily be mistaken as decades younger than her actual age. Congrats Janice, we are pleased to be part of your wellness lifestyle!

Extended hours for chiropractic adjustments and personal training

Starting Tuesday, April 14th, our office hours will be expanding.  This includes our training hours and our adjusting hours.  Some of you probably don’t know that Amber, at the front desk, is also a certified personal trainer.  Amber will be available for training every Tuesday from 10 AM until 12 PM.  This is a perfect opportunity to get in a workout over your lunch break.  Along with expanded workout hours we are also expanding our adjusting hours.  Dr. Ryan will be available for adjusting from 11 AM until 3 PM every Tuesday.  We know how busy your schedule can be and giving you another afternoon option to schedule your adjustment should make things easier.  These expanded hours will enable us to help more people and be available to ease your scheduling challenges.

National Chiropractic Health Month: Conservative Care First

Did you know that October is National Chiropractic Health Month?

The theme for this month, put on by the American Chiropractic Association is “Conservative Care First!”  A conservative approach to pain management and health enhancement is both sensible and effective.

As they explain, “for years, many patients would find relief through conservative forms of care such as chiropractic services only after unsuccessfully trying a range of other, more complex and riskier treatments. Today, that approach has been reversed, with more medical research and guidelines supporting the idea that patients should exhaust conservative approaches to pain management before moving on to other options.”

Unfortunately for those who started with riskier treatments, they may have experienced adverse side effects from their first choice in treatments – ranging from the use of steroids, pain medication, and painful, or sometimes repeat surgeries.

National Chiropractic Health Month

Breast Cancer Prevention Through Lifestyle

You know it is October when the NFL is suited up in hot pink, for breast cancer awareness.  While awareness is a wonderful thing, let us not forget that cancer can be prevented.

Yes a small percentage of cancers are genetic, but at least 50% of ALL cancers can be prevented, a well known statistic agreed up by even the National Institutes of Health and National Center for Biotechnology Information.

Each October the focus is for the early detection and treatment of breast cancer, rather than prevention. We know about the importance of mammograms and self-breast examinations, and are grateful for radiation and surgical treatments that save lives.

Yet we must remember that early detection and treatment of breast cancer is in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, a means to prevent breast cancer. So, let’s talk about prevention. Here are just a few suggestions:

  1. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Adipose tissue (fat) manufactures estrogen in the body and breast cancer is an estrogen dependent tumor. Therefore the more fat cells you have, the more estrogen you make and the higher chances you have for developing an estrogen dependent tumor. 30 minutes per day is best.
  2. Maintain a Body Mass Index (BMI) below 30. After menopause, obese women (over 30 BMI) have double the risk of breast cancer compared to women with a normal BMI. We can coach you to drop the weight with proper nutrition and exercise, through our 8WW program.  The 8WW program can be adjusted for people of all fitness levels and ages to benefit from.
  3. Burn away abdominal fat. The worst place to carry fat is around your middle. Your waist measurements should be less than 35” if you are a woman and less than 40” if you are a male. A high amount of abdominal fat is linked to breast cancer. If you haven’t visited our gym yet, get a complimentary personal training session to learn how to build your core strength.
  4. Eat healthy consistently. Eats lots and lots of cruciferous vegetables. Cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli and brussels sprouts, contain a substance called “indole-3-carbinol”.   This substance is a proven anti-oxidant and improves the detoxification of estrogen in the body. Flax seed and soy products are also important in balancing hormones in the female body. Our 8WW program focuses on making healthy eating decisions part of your everyday lifestyle.
  5. Take Vitamin D. Studies are linking Vitamin D deficiency with increased breast cancer risk. Take a minimum of 1000 IU’s of Vitamin D3.  Pick up a bottle at our front desk during your next visit.
  6. Don’t accept breast cancer to be your destiny, even if you have family history. Your mind set is probably the single most important deterrent of cancer that your body has.   Believe that your body has the power to heal, and it will.
  7. Improve your immune system with regular chiropractic adjustments. Not only do adjustments boost your immune system, it enhances every aspect of well-being. Schedule your next adjustment with one of our three doctors at 303-790-6000.

Learn About Instrument Chiropractic Adjustment Techniques

Dr Troy Ryan is a chiropractor at Kambeitz Chiropractic Health and Wellness Center P.C.  He took some time to explain the computerized instrument adjustment at the clinic, the Pro Adjuster.

This is an alternative to the traditional chiropractic manipulation, or adjustment.  Some patients can be a little bit apprehensive or worried about being adjusted with traditional chiropractic.   With this style of adjusting there is no turning or twisting, and no sudden movements like you would have with a traditional adjustment.

A patient sits in the upright position, and rests their head into the cradle.

The device has a very sophisticated sensor that can measure and detect subluxations in the spine. Simply by placing this instrument on each vertebra in the spine, the sensor can pick up which levels of the spine are restricted in motion or fixated.  That readings and measurements from the sensor appears on the screen.   Using the screen the chiropractor can determine which areas of the spine I to adjust that day.  The chiropractor will place the instrument on the specific vertebrae that were selected, and can adjust the spine accordingly.

This instrument utilizes an oscillating force and taps 12 taps per second.  The computer itself, will turn off as soon as that vertebra is moving the way that it is supposed to be moving.  Once each vertebrae is adjusted, the chiropractor will move on to the next vertebrae that need adjustment, from the initial readings.

This method of adjusting is great for our pediatric patients, and even our geriatric patients, but really all of our patients benefit from this style of adjusting, especially patients that are in a lot of acute pain.

Heidi Bauer, one of our many rock star patients, shares her testimonial. Heidi is a dedicated patient who continues to challenge herself to achieve her wellness goals.

“I met Dr. Jim Kambeitz at a health fair held by my company, CH2M HILL. I told him about my constant low back pain that I’ve had for two years and the pain in my mid back on my right side that I could feel every time I took a deep breath. Dr. Kambeitz listened to my description of the pains, poked and prodded a little bit, and then said, “I think I can help you,” in such a way that I knew it was true.

I started seeing results after the first few visits. What I appreciated the most was being given tools (i.e. stretches and strengthening exercises) that I could use on my own at home, which gave me some control over providing my own care without being dependent on scheduling appointments. My low back pain went away after just a few weeks, but I could also feel that if I didn’t continue with the care I had started, the pain would come back. So, I made a commitment to doing the stretches and exercises that Dr. Kambeitz and Thomas, their massage therapist, had assigned me.

Now, when I attend my appointments, I feel like it is truly for maintenance, for maintaining the strives we’ve achieved. I feel stronger and more capable than ever. I am now actively pursuing a new competitive sport (racquetball) and have a promising career in it. When I played in the racquetball circuit five years ago, I could not stand up straight after playing a day in a tournament. Now, I can’t even remember what that used to feel like. It took a leap of faith, but I am so grateful I took it! My experience at Dr. Kambeitz’s office has changed my life. “

Heidi’s best advice to other patients:

Be open. Be open to new sensations in your body, new ideas for exercises or stretches that may help, etc. Be open to the fact that the care being offered might actually work when nothing else has!

Be committed. It does take a lot of time, especially to do the exercises and stretches on your own. If you’re committed enough to make appointments in the office, you owe it to yourself to make the most of that investment and go all the way. It’s worth it; I promise!

Be patient. You might not see results in the first visit, or even the first few visits. Keep at it and know that as long as you can feel things changing (i.e. different than they used to be) in your body, you are headed down the right track.

Be assertive. Don’t be shy about mentioning an ache or pain, even if you think you sound like you’re “complaining”. Even if you are feeling “Great!” relative to the first time you walked in the office, you should be honest about how you are feeling each day.

Be creative. Work alongside the Doctor’s and staff to design a plan that best suits your needs.

A Conversation with Dr Troy Ryan – KCHWC’s Newest Chiropractor

Dr. RyanWe would like to welcome Dr. Troy Ryan to Kambeitz Chiropractic Health and Wellness Center P.C.  In case if you haven’t met him yet, meet Dr. Troy Ryan and learn more about his approaches to wellness through chiropractic, from our conversation with him.

Where did you go to Chiropractic school? I went to chiropractic school in Portland, Oregon at the University of Western states What was your inspiration to study and practice chiropractic? I have been treated by chiropractic physicians in my early years and I have always been amazed at how quickly I responded to chiropractic care. I have always been so impressed that I always left a chiropractor’s office feeling much better than when I arrived. From that I knew there was something special about the chiropractors in my early life and that has always stuck with me. The curiosity of chiropractic led me down the path to further investigate the profession, lifestyle, and business.What are some of the most common questions from people who have yet to be treated with chiropractic? People want to know if a chiropractic adjustment is painful. People want to know what are the risks involved, if any. People want to know how soon they will start to feel relief from their injuries. People like to know how long I had to go to school to become a chiropractor.What are the most common ailments that people complain about that you treat with chiropractic? Mechanical low back pain is one of the more common symptoms/ailments that patients will want chiropractors to treat.Do you have any techniques or advice for people who are uncomfortable getting manual adjustments? The activator technique or the pro adjuster (computer assisted adjusting) is an alternative to manual adjusting. Such alternative adjusting can produce the same amount of force and load on a particular joint in the spine as a manual adjustment. It is uncommon to hear an audible cavitation/pop. However, the effectiveness of such a technique is high and patients can receive asymptomatic relief from their initial complaint. How has chiropractic improved your own health and wellness? 

Chiropractic is so much more than just correcting misaligned vertebrae in the spine. Chiropractic is about a holistic approach to preventative health. Nutrition, diet, and exercise are all parts of chiropractic. I am eating better and exercising regularly to maintain optimal health so that I can carry-on as a chiropractor to lead by example for my patients.

Pets Benefit from Chiropractic Care too!

Just like children and adults, pets can benefit from chiropractic care.  Just like humans, dogs, cats, rabbits, horses all get subluxations, which cause the nerves to ineffectively fire.  And like humans, their pain can affect their daily activities and health.
