Heidi Bauer’s Patient Testimonial and Story

Heidi Bauer, one of our many rock star patients, shares her testimonial. Heidi is a dedicated patient who continues to challenge herself to achieve her wellness goals.

“I met Dr. Jim Kambeitz at a health fair held by my company, CH2M HILL. I told him about my constant low back pain that I’ve had for two years and the pain in my mid back on my right side that I could feel every time I took a deep breath. Dr. Kambeitz listened to my description of the pains, poked and prodded a little bit, and then said, “I think I can help you,” in such a way that I knew it was true.

I started seeing results after the first few visits. What I appreciated the most was being given tools (i.e. stretches and strengthening exercises) that I could use on my own at home, which gave me some control over providing my own care without being dependent on scheduling appointments. My low back pain went away after just a few weeks, but I could also feel that if I didn’t continue with the care I had started, the pain would come back. So, I made a commitment to doing the stretches and exercises that Dr. Kambeitz and Thomas, their massage therapist, had assigned me.

Now, when I attend my appointments, I feel like it is truly for maintenance, for maintaining the strives we’ve achieved. I feel stronger and more capable than ever. I am now actively pursuing a new competitive sport (racquetball) and have a promising career in it. When I played in the racquetball circuit five years ago, I could not stand up straight after playing a day in a tournament. Now, I can’t even remember what that used to feel like. It took a leap of faith, but I am so grateful I took it! My experience at Dr. Kambeitz’s office has changed my life. “

Heidi’s best advice to other patients:

Be open. Be open to new sensations in your body, new ideas for exercises or stretches that may help, etc. Be open to the fact that the care being offered might actually work when nothing else has!

Be committed. It does take a lot of time, especially to do the exercises and stretches on your own. If you’re committed enough to make appointments in the office, you owe it to yourself to make the most of that investment and go all the way. It’s worth it; I promise!

Be patient. You might not see results in the first visit, or even the first few visits. Keep at it and know that as long as you can feel things changing (i.e. different than they used to be) in your body, you are headed down the right track.

Be assertive. Don’t be shy about mentioning an ache or pain, even if you think you sound like you’re “complaining”. Even if you are feeling “Great!” relative to the first time you walked in the office, you should be honest about how you are feeling each day.

Be creative. Work alongside the Doctor’s and staff to design a plan that best suits your needs.

A Conversation with Dr Troy Ryan – KCHWC’s Newest Chiropractor

Dr. RyanWe would like to welcome Dr. Troy Ryan to Kambeitz Chiropractic Health and Wellness Center P.C.  In case if you haven’t met him yet, meet Dr. Troy Ryan and learn more about his approaches to wellness through chiropractic, from our conversation with him.

Where did you go to Chiropractic school?
I went to chiropractic school in Portland, Oregon at the University of Western states What was your inspiration to study and practice chiropractic?

I have been treated by chiropractic physicians in my early years and I have always been amazed at how quickly I responded to chiropractic care. I have always been so impressed that I always left a chiropractor’s office feeling much better than when I arrived. From that I knew there was something special about the chiropractors in my early life and that has always stuck with me. The curiosity of chiropractic led me down the path to further investigate the profession, lifestyle, and business. What are some of the most common questions from people who have yet to be treated with chiropractic?

People want to know if a chiropractic adjustment is painful. People want to know what are the risks involved, if any. People want to know how soon they will start to feel relief from their injuries. People like to know how long I had to go to school to become a chiropractor. What are the most common ailments that people complain about that you treat with chiropractic?

Mechanical low back pain is one of the more common symptoms/ailments that patients will want chiropractors to treat.Do you have any techniques or advice for people who are uncomfortable getting manual adjustments?

The activator technique or the pro adjuster (computer assisted adjusting) is an alternative to manual adjusting. Such alternative adjusting can produce the same amount of force and load on a particular joint in the spine as a manual adjustment. It is uncommon to hear an audible cavitation/pop. However, the effectiveness of such a technique is high and patients can receive asymptomatic relief from their initial complaint. How has chiropractic improved your own health and wellness?

Chiropractic is so much more than just correcting misaligned vertebrae in the spine. Chiropractic is about a holistic approach to preventative health. Nutrition, diet, and exercise are all parts of chiropractic. I am eating better and exercising regularly to maintain optimal health so that I can carry-on as a chiropractor to lead by example for my patients.

Pets Benefit from Chiropractic Care too!

Just like children and adults, pets can benefit from chiropractic care.  Just like humans, dogs, cats, rabbits, horses all get subluxations, which cause the nerves to ineffectively fire.  And like humans, their pain can affect their daily activities and health.

Pregnancy Pains and Stress Treated with Chiropractic

Moms-to-be Need Chiropractic too!

Pregnancy can be tough on a body.  Ask any expecting mother, and she will admit to some soreness somewhere.  In fact, half of all women experience lower back pain during pregnancy.

The growing baby, will shift a mother’s center of gravity.  As the baby starts to show there is an increased curvature of the lower back, and a woman’s posture will change to compensate for the increased weight .  As the body prepares for labor, the pelvis will change to prepare to give birth.

These changes will cause misalignments in the spine, and may lead to nervous system stress as the nervous system is working less efficiently, but is nonetheless working overtime to provide for the mother and baby.

Nervous system stress can present itself with a variety of symptoms.  Including backaches, constipation, emotional stress, faintness, indigestion, pelvic pain, physical stress, sleeplessness, swollen extremities, and tiredness.

Chiropractic care during pregnancy can treat these conditions by reducing the pressure along the nervous system, allowing nerves to fire correctly, to repair and treat the body.

In addition your chiropractor can work along with you to adapt a wellness lifestyle during your pregnancy.  Women who are tired may benefit from nutritional advice to make sure that the foods they eat provide the energy needed without huge glycemic spikes.  Women whose preexisting deposition that causes hip or backaches, may benefit from ergonomic advice.

Check Out Our Booth At A Race Near You

Did you know 3-5x of our bodyweight is transmitted through the leg, during each step’s impact, when running?

Raceday brings a certain amount of physical stress on our bodies, which is sometimes exacerbated by prerace nerves.  By the time the race is over, you can see the toll it takes on the bodies of athletes hobbling around the finish line.

This season we have been touring some of the local race series.  This past weekend we had a booth at the Splash, Mash and Dash Triathlon, complete with massage tables and a massage chair.  Dr Zales and massage therapist, Sharyn Greenberg gave complimentary massage and assisted athletes with post race stretching on August 10th.

Splash Mash Dash triathlon massage booth
Free Massages! Our booth at the Splash Mash Dash Triathlon.

A great job to all the participants!  This USAT sanctioned event had sprint and olympic triathlon distances, that drew experienced and novice triathletes alike.

While we were set up prospective patients asked their questions about pains and injuries, and how massage and chiropractic may be able to help them.  In fact… Chiropractic is for everybody!

Chiropractic adjustments keep the 26 bones in the feet moving correctly and the muscle work keeps the muscles and fascia moving correctly.

High impact sports like running are known for the various injuries, which can sometimes take an athlete in their athletic prime to the sidelines to rest and rehab an injury.  Active athletes benefit from getting regular chiropractic adjustments, and massages.

If you weren’t at the Splash, Mash and Dash, but have running, cycling or swimming ambitions of your own, please come talk to our massage therapists, trainers and doctors – we’ll be here to help you reach your goals!

Chiropractic X-Rays

Are you coming in for your first appointment at Kambeitz Chiropractic Health and Wellness Center P.C.? Or are you coming in for your first adjustment ever?

Either way, you will have a new patient exam which involves getting a set of digital x-rays and using a subluxation and thermal scanner. (And when you leave, you will get to take home a copy of your scan results and a disc with your digital x-rays!)

Some chiropractors that you have been to may not require x-rays before they start treatment.  And some clinics, such as our own require new or recent x-rays.

You’re the One to Benefit

X-rays allow our Doctors to get a better look into the causes and origins of your pain. They say, ‘we only feel 10% of what is going on in our bodies.’ Many people think of Chiropractors as joint adjusters to reduce pain, but we consider ourselves s Doctors of the nervous system. A poorly aligned spine may cause some nerves to fire triggering headaches, reproductive problems, carpal tunnel, foot or ankle pain, bed wetting etc.  By looking at your x-rays we don’t have to just treat the symptoms, by adjusting the vertebrae that correspond with your symptoms, but rather reduce tensions on the nervous system preventing future symptoms.

While in the exam room, after taking x-rays, we will also do a spinal scan.  This subluxation scan gives us a visual of the muscular tension and symmetry. The thermal scan coordinates with the autotomic nervous system and the nerves that travel to every muscle, tissue and cell in the body.  Each scan is unique and the Doctors will go over your scan results with you.

Occasionally we will rescan you to see progress and changes as you’ve progressed through your treatment plan.

No Pain, No Gain… Or is it? Post Workout Soreness & Functional Movements

There is a gym mantra we have all heard, “No Pain, No Gain.” It has been used by trainers in workouts, by athletes in commercials, and quoted by great athletes.  Certainly when working out your body is exhausted, fatigued and put under stress that it would not have while sitting on the couch. But when does the ‘pain’ you are feeling, prevent you from reaching your athletic and wellness potential?

Not all pain that you feel during your workout originate from the workout itself. We have a variety of patients at our clinic and in our 8 Weeks to Wellness program. There are patients with pain from an old injury, and those with pain from a very recent injury. Some patients’ x-rays show good spinal alignment, while others have poor spinal alignment.

The alignment of a person’s spine can affect outer extremities of the body. A patient with one hip slightly higher than the other may complain of knee pain believing the problem is entirely in the knee but not realize where the problem is originating.

We can only feel 10% of what is going on in our bodies.

At the start of the 8 Weeks to Wellness program we will do an exam and test your functional movements. During the functional movement testing we will identify areas of your body that do not pass these range of motion tests.

Our trainers will then focus a portion of your workout with mobility exercises to stretch and strengthen the area(s) you failed in the functional movement tests. By focusing on these susceptible areas, you will be able to help prevent future injury during your workouts.

While we expect you to be sore a couple days after your group workouts with our trainers, let us know if it exceeds normal post workout soreness. Normal soreness might mean you’re sore stepping out of bed in the morning, going up and down the stairs or lifting groceries. Stretching and your outside cardio usually helps relieve the normal post workout soreness.
